Registration of foreign capital companies in Romania declines 2.56pct, Jan.-Feb., 2017

The number of startups running on foreign capital in Romania declined 2.56 percent January-February y-o-y, to 797, reveal data with the National Trade Register Office (ONRC).

The 797 new startups had a paid-up capital of more than 8.55 million US dollars, up 139 percent y-o-y.

In 2016, Romania witnessed the leanest in 18 years in terms of new startups running on foreign capital. Thus, in 2016, 5,348 such companies were established, down from 5,831 in 2015. After 1991, most of the companies were established in 2007, when more than 15,000 startups were registered. At the opposite end, 1995 witnessed the smallest such number of just 3,400 new startups.

The total value of the share capital of the 5,348 companies is 40 million US dollars, up 1.4 from 2015.

In 1991 – 2016, 209,814 companies were started in Romania on foreign capital, with the total value of the paid-up foreign capital standing at 44.8 billion euros.

Out of the total 209,814 companies, 43,627 run on Italian capital, but the most sizable foreign capital came from the Netherlands: 8.71 billion euros contributed to 4,919 companies.
