The Embassy of Israel is always very active on the cultural scene of Romania. This year’s schedule started with a unique project that also crowned Israel’s National Day ceremonies: Violins of Hope. Instruments recovered from extermination camps -later on restored- shined on the stage of the Romanian Athenaeum in an extraordinary concert about continuity and the power of art.
The Embassy gives great respect to contemporary dancing, one of Israel’s trademarks, therefore it always supports SibFest, which will host, in June, Kibbutz, Vertigo and Batsheva Dance Company, with shows that always sell out. Orly Portal Dance Company and Martin Hariague are coming to Cluj-Napoca, at STEPS Dance Festival, while Undercloud is warming Bucharest up for Ofir Yudilevitch, Roni Chadash and Ido Tadmor & Daniel Abreu (photo).
The talented, ingenious and colorful Hanoch Piven gave course to the invitation of the Embassy to be present at Art Safari, where he will host two workshops for families, on June 10th. Visual artist Maya Dunietz is also scheduled to arrive to Bucharest in the fall.
Israeli film was present at Cinepolitica, where Beyond the Mountains and Hills took part in the international competition, and Tomer Heymann is expected at the Bucharest International Dance Film Festival. NexT, as always, will surprise the audiences with fresh glimpses from the Israeli movie industry.
There is plenty to choose from also for theatre lovers. The Embassy is supporting Jaffa’s Elmina Theatre presence at the “Gulliver” International Animation Festival in Galați this May, as well as their return to long-time partner “Ion Creangă” Theatre’s festival later this year, along with Ofir Yudilevitch and the Demente Drummers.
