Former PM Dacian Ciolos says that it’s no longer enough to say that we did our job for the society by delegating the attributions to some leaders, by voting, paying membership fees or making donations, and the involvement of all of us is necessary to find solutions, not only with likes or just going out in the street.
Dacian Ciolos spoke on Saturday, at the TEDxEroilor Conference held at Cluj, about the importance of the society’s involvement in the act of governance, beyond the protests, voting or membership fees for various organizations.
“It is no longer enough to say that we did our job for the society by delegating attributions to some leaders, by voting, paying membership fees or making donations. Society needs each of us, because each one of us is unique. (…) We are in a transition of the governing manner of the societies. We are in a transition phase from a pyramidal governance, to a networking governance. We will be no longer able to find solutions only by delegating leaders who made a job from being a politician, which is not good. Solutions will not come like this anymore, we need to assume ourselves to be able to find solutions together. All the more so in this context the involvement of everyone is needed” Ciolos explained.
He insisted that classical democracy needs an evolution to adapt the current society’s requirements, explaining that social involvement must go beyond likes and even beyond protests.
“I believe that even the democracy coming from antiquity needs an improvement and an evolution in terms of the way of analyzing the society’s governance (…) I’ve received almost accusing requests on my involvement, and my answer is: all of us have to involve, not only with likes or just going out in the street. We need more than this. It’s important to turn the energy of contesting, which already is a form of expression related to certain expectations, into an energy of constructing, and I am sure this energy, with our imagination, can help us to find the best solutions” Dacian Ciolos also stated.
