Romania imported 43,008 tons of raw milk in Q1 2017, by 12.8 pct more than in the same period of 2016, while the amount of milk collected by the processing units went up by 2.3 pct to 229,107 tons, the National Institute of Statistics informed.
The production of consumption milk increased by 4.5 pct to 76,489 tons in the first three months of this year compared to the same period last year.
There was also production growth for butter – up 507 tons (+ 18.7 pct); and acidified milk (yogurt, drinking yoghurt, buttermilk and similar dairy products) – up 1.011 tons (+ 2 pct). The production of sour cream was down by 1,832 tons (-10.3 pct) and that of cheeses also decreased by 325 tons (-1.6 pct).
In a YoY comparison, March 2017 figures were higher for butter – up 179 tons (+ 18.4 pct); acidified milk (yoghurt, drinking yogurt, buttermilk and similar dairy products) – up 296 tons (+1.8 pct); and consumption milk – 269 tons higher (+ 1pct). Production decreases were registered for consumption sour cream – down 407 tons (-7.2 pct) and for cheeses – by 470 tons less (-5.9 pct).
