Teodor Melescanu and Rex Tillerson, on the phone about regional situation and cooperation

Foreign Affairs Minister Teodor Melescanu had a telephone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Tuesday and they discussed several issues of the Strategic Partnership, informs a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE).

The talks occasioned a brief overview of the state of the bilateral relations as well as of the regional situation. The importance of the two countries’ Strategic Partnership and the objective of developing and boosting all the dimensions of cooperation within it was reiterated, reads the source.

The Romanian official expressed his satisfaction with the excellent level of the bilateral cooperation in the field of security and defence, underlining the importance of the American and Allied presence in Romania and in the region, as well as the steps taken by both governments and business representatives to amplify the economic dimension of the bilateral relationship. The Minister of Foreign Affairs also reminded that this year the two countries celebrate the 20th anniversary of the launch of the Strategic Partnership.

The telephone conversation took place in the context of the dialogue with the new U.S. Administration, the Foreign Ministry specifies.
