Romania’s Minister-delegate for European Affairs Ana Birchall will be attending on Tuesday a meeting of the EU’s General Affairs Council (GAC) in Brussels
In a press statement released on Monday, Romania’s Foreign Ministry (MAE) says the general affairs ministers will discuss the agenda of a June 22-23 European summit that includes migration, security and defence, employment, economic growth and competitiveness as well as foreign affairs. The meeting will also look into the implementation of measures passed by the March European Council meeting amidst efforts to secure efficiency for the decision-making process in Europe and transparency for their implementation to the benefit of the European citizens.
Another item on the agenda is the European Commission unveiling actions following the release of the White Paper on the Future of Europe.
On Monday, Birchall is scheduled to meet Romanian functionaries employed by European institutions; Deputy Secretary General of the European Commission Ilze Juhansone, as well as Secretary General of the Council of the European Union Jeppe Tranholm-Mikkelsen in view of preparing Romania’s presidency of the council in the first half of 2019.
“In order to raise up to the stakes of the 2019 Romanian presidency, we have to be aware that everyone involved in the process have to speed up their activities. At the same time with domestic preparations, Romania is conducting an external process of systematic coordination with other EU member states and European institutions for successful office tenure,” Birchall is quoted as saying in the statement.
