ForMin Teodor Melescanu attends Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers in Nicosia

The Foreign Affairs Minister, Teodor Melescanu is attending Thursday and Friday the reunion of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers in Nicosia, under the mandate of the Presidency of the Republic of Cyprus, the relevant ministry informs in a release.

The Nicosia reunion will also mark the transfer of the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers from the Republic of Cyprus to the Czech Republic.

The main topic of the debate is the strengthening of the democratic security in Europe, with talks focusing on building trust in the European democracies, namely the reaction to the challenges posed by racism, xenophobia, social exclusion, extremism and populism, combating terrorism – the strengthening of the pan-European answer, the protection of the terrorist acts’ victims, migration, conflicts and crises in Europe, the constant guarantee of the system efficiency of the European Convention of Human Rights, the policy of the Council of Europe toward the proximity regions, the cooperation between the Council of Europe and the European Union.

On this occasion, the Council of Europe’s Convention on the criminalisation of acts directed against cultural property will be open to signing, says the source.
