Romania under Code Red advisory for heatwave: 1,796 calls for ambulances in past 30 hours; 42 persons fainted

A number of 1796 calls were placed with the Bucharest-Ilfov Ambulance Service since Friday morning until Saturday 13:00 hrs, no increases compared to a normal day, said, for AGERPRES, the manager of the institution, Alis Grasu.

“Since yesterday morning until Saturday around 13:30, 1,796 persons needed ambulances in Bucharest and Ilfov County, of which 921 presented code red and code yellow emergencies. Of the persons that had emergencies, 227 were in public places. Of them, 42 were near fainting and 32 had fainted. We are at the level of a usual day. There is no increase in the number of requests as compared to the past days,” Alis Grasu stated.

The National Weather Administration (ANM) issued on Friday morning a Code Orange advisory for heatwave and thermal discomfort for 16 counties and Bucharest and another Code Yellow advisory for Friday in the  10:00 hrs – 21:00 hrs interval.

Furthermore, the weathermen issued a Code Red advisory for heatwave and thermal discomfort for 19 counties and Bucharest for Saturday in the 10:00 hrs – 21:00 hrs interval.

ANM also issued on Saturday a series of Code Yellow and Code Orange advisories for storms and high thermal values for most of the country, starting tonight and ending on Monday at 23:00 hrs.

ANM mentions that, in the mentioned interval, on large areas in the south and south-east of the country the temperature will not go below 20 degrees Celsius at night and thermal discomfort will be high.
