Prosecutors and police officers searched the campus of the “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, the offices, the working places and the houses of certain professors suspected of corruption offenses. According to the investigators, the professors in question asked and received undue benefits on the occasion of the students’ examinations, as well as at the admission examinations, at the bachelor’s degrees or when granting the merit grade or the didactic positions, being suspected also that they provided the students with the subjects for the exams. Official sources said that those who are targeted by the investigation are professors Florin Mihai Filipoiu and Alexandru Bucur.
Professor Florin Mihai Filipoiu, the Head of the Department of Anatomy of the “Carol Davila” University of medicine in Bucharest, and Professor Alexandru Bucur, the Head of the Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, Anesthesiology and Sedation Discipline of the Faculty of Dentistry will be heard by the prosecutors following the searches on Monday morning, being suspected of receiving bribe from students in order to provide them with the subjects for the exams, according to official sources.
According to the quoted sources, the two professors were asking from RON 500 to EUR 500 for providing the subjects for the exams. Following the searches, they will be taken to the Prosecution Office attached to the Supreme Court, in order to be heard.
“The conducted prosecution proceedings show that several professors of the high education establishment are performing illegal activities consisting of asking and receiving undue material benefits on the occasion of organizing and holding the semester/yearly examinations for various disciplines by students, and/or on the occasion of the admission exams or the bachelor’s degree exams, or on the occasion of granting the merit grade or didactic positions. The administered evidence also showed that during the school year, some of the university professors are organizing ‘private lessons’ on their disciplines, in which circumstances they approach and provide the students with the subjects for the exam”, according to the prosecutors of the Supreme Court.
