Tusk in letter to Tudose: Rule of law and progress in anti-corruption fight are crucial for Romanians to benefit from membership of EU

European Council President Donald Tusk sent a letter of congratulations to Mihai Tudose, on his appointment at the helm of the Romanian Government. In it, he states that the rule of law and the progress in the fight against corruption are crucial for Romanians to fully benefit from the opportunities offered by the status of European citizens.

Donald Tusk congratulated Mihai Tudose, on behalf of the European Council, on taking office as Head of Government.

“As a member of the European Union and upcoming holder of the Presidency of the Council of the EU, Romania plays a particularly active role in supporting a stronger and united Union, as well as a stable and democratic EU neighbourhood,” Tusk’s letter reads.

Likewise, the European Council President evokes the rule of law and the fight against corruption in order for Romanians to fully benefit from all the opportunities that their status as European citizens entails.

“I trust that your government will provide Romania with stability conducive to the continued development of your country as well as of the European Union, and will continue to contribute constructively in solving common challenges. The rule of law and progress in the fight against corruption, in line with the high expectations of Romanian society and the EU’s values, are crucial in ensuring that all Romanian citizens are able to benefit fully from all the opportunities offered by membership of the Union,” Tusk added.
