The Government has decided to earmark 19,361,000 lei from its reserve fund for the WWI – Heroic Vrancea – the Year Marasti – Marasesti, Oituz Centennial event organised by the local public administrations and institutions under the coordination of the Vrancea County Council, reads a Government resolution published in the Official Journal on Friday.

Any unused amounts are to be returned to the national budget, according to the Government resolution.
Among the events to be organised are the “Romanian Army in the Great War” photo exhibition; a Romanian film gala; commemorations and artistic shows at Focsani, Marasesti, Marasti and Soveja; a postal stamp issue; a medal and a plaque, as well as some tourist promotion materials of the county and WWI battle grounds. At the same time, a website of the event will be created and the events will be promoted in the local and national print as well audio and video media.
Moreover, rehabilitation works will be conducted on the Victory Statue of Tisita – Marasesti, and a reinforced concrete bridge will be built over the brook Alba. A Park of National Memory will also be made, to be named “Romania’s Oaks – 100 years of history and dignity,” which entails planting 335,000 oak saplings, “as a living memorial of each serviceman of the Romanian Army who sacrificed his life for the Greater Union of 1918,” the resolution also says.
