Tap Portugal returns to Romania with direct flights on the Lisbon-Bucharest route

Lisbon, the revelation of the summer season 2017, becomes more accessible for the Romanian tourists. The safest airline in the Western Europe, Tap Portugal, returned in Romania since July, with direct flights on the Lisbon-Bucharest route, and it estimates that will transport 70,000 passengers by the end of the year. With relaunching the Lisbon-Bucharest-Lisbon route, the Romanian tourists will benefit from very good connections with touristic areas they could hardly reach until now. At present, almost 3,500 Romanian tourists come in Portugal each month.

The official inauguration of the flight was on Friday, on the “Henri Coanda” International Airport. The event was attended by David Jacinto, Head of Northern and Central European Sales, Peter Szolnok, Regional Manager, and Claudia Stroescu, Sales Manager Romania.

“The TAP Portugal passengers will benefit from a brand new structure for the airline ticket prices, from the cheapest ones, dedicated to those traveling with minimum costs, to the ones for those who wish to benefit from full service and increased comfort , new routes and additional flights for those already existing. If we currently have five flights per week, we expect to have daily TAP direct flights on the Bucharest – Lisbon route since the summer 2018” stated David Jacinto, Head of Northern and Central European Sales.

TAP Portugal in Romania

The arrival of the TP1322 TAP flight in Bucharest, on Friday, July 7, 2017, was marked by a water cannon salute. Organizers also prepared an original artistic moment at the check-in point: a dance full of color and personality, specific to the Portuguese spirit.

There will be six flights per week to Lisbon. The Airbus A319 and A320 aircrafts dedicated to the route, will leave the “Henri Coanda” International Airport on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, at 7.00. On Friday, the Bucharest-Lisbon flights will be performed starting at 17.30.

Better connections for the Romanian tourists

With relaunching the Lisbon-Bucharest-Lisbon, the Romanian tourists will benefit from very good connections to special touristic areas. They are connections to Madeira or Azores, two extremely picturesque Portuguese destinations in the Atlantic Ocean. The TAP flights will also serve Gran Canaria. Via Lisbon, TAP Portugal also covers routes to 11 destinations from Spain, such as Asturias, Seville, Bilbao, La Coruna and Vigo, and of course, to all the important Portuguese destinations, such as Porto, Faro, Funchal, Porto Santo, Ponta Delgada and Terceira.

TAP Portugal has its own flights to 10 Brazilian cities and African destinations such as Cape Verde, Sao Tome & Principe, Mozambique, Senegal, Ghana, Togo, Angola and Ivory Coast, unique destinations less known to the Romanian people, which they can reach easier from now on. It also operates to the both important airports in New York (JFK and Newark), to Miami, Boston, and since this June, to Toronto. Besides, it is the only airline offering 3 destinations from Romania to Morocco: Casablanca, Marrakech and Tangier.

If Lisbon or Porto aren’t the final destination, the passengers having, for instance, destinations in North America, Boston, New York, Miami or Toronto may benefit from the Portugal Stopover program, meaning they can interrupt their trip and spent up to 3 days in Lisbon or Porto, without additional costs. Since the last summer, 53 thousands of tourists benefitted from this program, and a significant increase is expected.

“Tourists who will travel with TAP Portugal will enjoy full quality services: warm plate on board, the possibility to choose the airplane seat for free, free registration of the luggage, increased seat comfort, including at the Economy class, a cabin with a new design at the Business class. In addition, they will be able to choose for flights on medium and long distance flights, via Lisbon, to final destinations on all of the continents.

The loyalty program for passengers, Victoria, the free stopover in Portugal, are only two examples of the company’s products designed to provide additional benefits to the passengers choosing to travel with TAP” stated Claudia Stroescu, Sales Manager for Romania.

TAP Portugal Investments

TAP Portugal returned to Romania with the Lisbon-Bucharest-Lisbon route, after it invested last year in 53 new aircrafts. It also modernized the existing fleet by an investment of EUR 81 million. In 2016, TAP transported 11.7 millions of passengers, namely 400,000 more passengers compared to 2015, and it had a revenue of EUR 2.2 billion.
