Peles Castle will host the ceremony for the 90th anniversary of the proclamation of His Majesty King Mihai I as King of Romania

Peles Castle – one of the most important historical buildings in Romania, unique by his historical and artistic value, will host, on 12th of July, a double event. It is a ceremony celebrating 90 years since the proclamation of King Mihai I as King of Romania, and the launch of the album-book “Povestea Castelului Peles” (“The Story of the Peles Castle” – e.n.), written by His Royal Highness Prince Radu of Romania.

The custodian of the Romanian Crown, Her Royal Highness Heir Princess Margareta, will host today, July 12, starting from 17.30, in Sinaia, at the Peles Castle, a ceremony for the 90th anniversary of the King Mihai I’s proclamation as King of Romania. The event will take place in the Hall of Honor of the Peles Castle, being attended, besides Prince Radu and Princess Maria, by representatives of the state institutions, of the Romanian Orthodox Church, of the Diplomatic Corps, of the organizations with royal patronage, and by personalities of the civil society. The ceremony is organized in the context in which nine decades will be completed on July 20, 2017, since Romania lost her unifying sovereign, King Ferdinand I, and His Majesty King Mihai I of Romania succeeded in the supreme position in the state, the one of “Head of State”, as it was called by the Constitution since 1923. Also today, July 12, the Peles Castle will host the launch of the album-book “Povestea Castelului Peles”, written by His Royal Highness Prince Radu of Romania, published by Curtea Veche Publishing. The event will be hosted by the Peles National Museum and will be held in the Music Hall (2 Aleea Pelesului str.), being attended by the author – Prince Radu. Narcis Dorin Ion – Manager of the Peles National Museum, Mircea Hortopan – the Heritage Manager of the Peles National Museum and Irén Arsene Máté   – Curtea Veche Publishing General Manager will speak at this event; the book presentation will be also followed by an autograph session.

According to a description on the presentation website of the castle related to the book, “Peles Castle is a masterpiece of the 19th Century’s architecture. A real gallery, gathering great trends and tendencies in painting, sculpture and decorative arts. It’s a place filled with history, which hosted crowned heads and visionary artists. Being the residence of the creator of modern Romania, King Carol I, Peles Castle is the ultimate expression of the desire of affirmation and legitimacy of the Romanian nation among the modern nations of Europe. Since any castle has its story, Peles also had to have one, and it is revealed by one of the Royal Family’s members himself. Erudite, thorough, often unique, splendidly illustrated, the Story of the Peles Castle is the most successful monograph of this fascinating and glorious symbol of Romania, until today”.
