US Ambassador in Bucharest Hans Klemm (photo R) congratulated the Romanian authorities in the context of the announcement made by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency referring to the possible purchase of seven PATRIOT high-range surface-to-air missile (HSAM) systems.
The appreciation was made during the meeting at the National Defence Ministry (MApN) headquarters of National Defence Minister Adrian Tutuianu and Ambassador Hans Klemm, the first meeting with the Embassy team since the ministerial mandate takeover.
“The discussion agenda included the continuation and strengthening of some common interest topics, such as the evolution of the bilateral relations between the two armies, the Romania-US Strategic Partnership and the need to consolidate cooperation in the region,” a MApN release on Wednesday informs.
The Romanian minister reiterated the solid partnership in the military area, underscoring the high number of joint exercises which the two allies are conducting this year in the region and the stage of implementing the measures adopted following the Warsaw Summit.
Furthermore, Tutuianu voiced appreciation for the US’ firm commitment to ensure stability and security in the Black Sea area, by strengthening the defence and deterrence measures established in Warsaw.
“On this occasion, Ambassador Klemm congratulated the Romanian authorities in the context of the announcement made by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency referring to the possible purchase of seven PATRIOT high-range surface-to-air missile (HSAM) systems, 3 plus configuration. Minister Adrian Tutuianu voiced conviction that achieving this programme will strengthen Romania’s defence capacity, will consolidate the Alliance’s eastern flank and will develop and consolidate the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the US,” the release reads.
The National Defence Ministry points out it will periodically inform the public on conducting the HSAM endowment programme.
Other topics on the meeting agenda were the stage of implementing the European Reassurance Initiative (ERI) and the need to intensify the efforts of the international community in counteracting ISIL/DAESH, Romania remaining firmly committed in this direction.
