Given that Ploiesti is rather known as the city of the “black gold”, the local authorities are intending to identify new leisure opportunities for this summer, so that the municipality of the county will be much more alive, including through events that are attracting as much spectators as possible. Thus, given that this year Ploiesti will celebrate 420 years since it was raised to the rank of lordly fair, a Medieval Festival will be organized at the end of this week.
In order to celebrate 420 years since the locality was raised from the rank of a village to the rank of a lordly fair by the Ruler Mihai Viteazul, Ploiesti will host, from July 14 to 16, 2017, the first edition of the Medieval Festival. Under the title “Ploiesti, Targ Domnesc” (“Ploiesti, Lordly Fair”), medieval fights, dances and sports activities on the same theme and medieval parades are scheduled to take place in the municipality of the Prahova County; medieval music concerts and spectacles held by known bands will be performed every day. In order to provide enough room for the events, especially for the fights, the festival will be held on the most known street of the city – Bulevardul cu Castani, stretching from close to downtown to the South Railway Station. According to the schedule prepared by the Ploiesti City Hall, the Medieval Festival will start on Friday, July 14, around noon, when several medieval camps will be installed; medieval fights and dances are scheduled to take place later. The opening of the exhibition closing the Plastic Arts Camp “Dan Platon” is scheduled on the same day; this year, it was organized in Ploiesti, given that the theme was the same with the festival’s theme, namely “Ploiesti – 420 Years of Lordly Fair”.
