Medieval Festival will be held in Ploiesti

Given that Ploiesti is rather known as the city of the “black gold”, the local authorities are intending to identify new leisure opportunities for this summer, so that the municipality of the county will be much more alive, including through events that are attracting as much spectators as possible. Thus, given that this year Ploiesti will celebrate 420 years since it was raised to the rank of lordly fair, a Medieval Festival will be organized at the end of this week.

In order to celebrate 420 years since the locality was raised from the rank of a village to the rank of a lordly fair by the Ruler Mihai Viteazul, Ploiesti will host, from July 14 to 16, 2017, the first edition of the Medieval Festival. Under the title “Ploiesti, Targ Domnesc” (“Ploiesti, Lordly Fair”), medieval fights, dances and sports activities on the same theme and medieval parades are scheduled to take place in the municipality of the Prahova County; medieval music concerts and spectacles held by known bands will be performed every day. In order to provide enough room for the events, especially for the fights, the festival will be held on the most known street of the city – Bulevardul cu Castani, stretching from close to downtown to the South Railway Station. According to the schedule prepared by the Ploiesti City Hall, the Medieval Festival will start on Friday, July 14, around noon, when several medieval camps will be installed; medieval fights and dances are scheduled to take place later. The opening of the exhibition closing the Plastic Arts Camp “Dan Platon” is scheduled on the same day; this year, it was organized in Ploiesti, given that the theme was the same with the festival’s theme, namely “Ploiesti – 420 Years of Lordly Fair”. Also on the first day of the festival, there will be a medieval parade, demonstrations of duel techniques by the medieval masters Liechtenauer, Dobringer and Mayer, as well as concerts, one of them being a concert of European music of the 13th and 14th centuries, and the other one, held by the bands “Hara” and “Spitalul de Urgenta”. On the second day of the festival, on Saturday, July 15, there are scheduled several events such as duel demonstrations, presentation of weapons and medieval camp activities and medieval music concerts; special guests are the music bands “Bere Gratis” and “Vama”.

On the last day of the festival, the following events are scheduled: archery, demonstrations of duel techniques, presentation of weapons, presentation of historical scenes; the most expected moment will be at noon – The Western Dream Tournament. As in the first days of the festival, medieval camp activities and concerts will not be missing; the guest will be the music bands “Vunk” and “Zdob si Zdup”.
