Romania’s industrial turnover advances 18.5pct in May 2017, y-o-y

Romania’s industrial turnover (internal and external markets combined) increased by 14.6 percent in nominal terms in May 2107, on a monthly basis, and it was up 18.5 percent y-o-y the same month, according to data released by the National Statistics Institute (INS) on Tuesday.

The monthly May 2017 increase was the result of increases in processing (+14.9 percent) as well as mining and quarrying (+3.0 percent). By large industrial groups, rises were reported in intermediary goods (+18.5 percent), durables (+16.6 percent), capital goods (+16.5 percent) and consumer goods (+15.0 percent). The energy industry was down 15.8 percent.

In May 2017 compared with May 2016, the industrial turnover was up 18.5 percent overall on increases mining and quarrying (+33.5 percent) and processing (+18.2 percent). By large industrial groups, rises were reported in capital goods (+25.2 percent), intermediary goods (+18.7 percent), durables (+14.4 percent), consumer goods (+13.1 percent) and energy (+3.9 percent).

In January 1 – May 31, 2017 compared with the same period of the year before, the industrial turnover was up 10.7 percent overall as a result of increases in processing (+10.7 percent) as well as mining and quarrying (+8.1 percent). By large industrial groups, rises were reported in capital goods (+16.7 percent), energy (+15.0 percent), intermediary goods (+8.0 percent), durables (+7.8 percent) and consumer goods (+5.1 percent).
