Raetchi asks Tudose and Dragnea for assurances that military pensions won’t be cut: We’re losing vital servicemen

PNL’s Lower House lawmaker Ovidiu Raetchi is asking Premier Mihai Tudose and Social Democratic Party (PSD) President Liviu Dragnea to offer public assurances that military pensions will not be cut, stating that, because of the uncertainties registered during this period, Romania is losing professional, career servicemen that are “vital” for the armed forces.

“At this hour, an ever-growing number of career servicemen are deciding to retire early, because of persistent public rumours according to which they may get smaller pensions once the basis of calculus is changed. That is why I’m asking Premier Mihai Tudose, but also PSD President Liviu Dragnea, to give the servicemen public assurances that their pensions will not be lowered. Defence Minister Adrian Tutuianu has pointed out that the algorithm will be maintained, and the pensions won’t slump, but, considering the PSD Government’s flip-flopping on the issue of the governing platform or of introducing taxes and fees, I consider that servicemen need this reassurance, including from the Premier’s level,” the Deputy Chairman of the Lower House’s Defence Committee said.

Defence Minister Adrian Tutuianu stated on Wednesday that there is a wave of retirements within the military system, because people have heard that the calculus algorithm may be changed. He gave assurances he agreed with Premier Mihai Tudose and PSD President Liviu Dragnea that the level of their pensions would not be changed.
