Over 500,000 and over 126,000 vehicles have crossed the border in the past 48 hours, the Border Police General Inspectorate (IGPF) informed on Sunday.
An increase of traffic through border crossings was recorded, especially through those in the west and south, given that many Romanian citizens abroad chose this weekend to return to Romania to spend their vacation together with their families, as well as the large number of Romanian citizens who chose to spend their vacation abroad.
In this period, over 4,000 border police officers are conducting, daily, control and surveillance activities on the state border.
The heaviest traffic was on the border crossings of the Romanian-Hungarian border (189,000 persons) and the international airport border crossings (120,000).
In what regards traffic on individual border crossings, at the top was the Henri Coanda Airport (73,000 persons), followed by Nadlac II (60,000 persons) and Bors, where the border police checked 39,000 persons.
Furthermore, on the border with Bulgaria, the highest traffic was recorded at the Giurgiu crossing (50,000 persons) and Vama Veche (23,000 persons).
“We emphasize that the infrastructure of the border crossing points is used to the maximum, within the limit of their configuration. Depending on the traffic values, each border crossing point has had additional lanes created, in the entry or exit direction, as the case necessitated. Given that, according to estimates, the most used border crossing points are those on the border with Hungary and Bulgaria, we urge the use of all border crossing points open to international traffic,” IGPF representatives mention.
In this sense, persons that are engaged in cross-border traffic have at their disposal the app Traffic On-line, developed by the Romanian Border Police, which can be accessed on the www.politiadefrontiera.ro web page, and which presents information from all border crossing points.
