DefMin Tutuianu meets Italian Ambassador Giungi: Continued consistent approach to entire NATO eastern flank is important

Minister of Defence Adrian Tutuianu said on Tuesday, in the context of his meeting with Italian Ambassador to Romania Marco Giungi, that a ‘consistent and unitary’ approach to the entire eastern flank of the Alliance is important.

“It is important to continue the consistent and unitary approach to the entire eastern flank of the Alliance to adequately meet the deterrence and defence requirements to address threats in the Black Sea region,” Tutuianu said, as cited in a Defence Ministry release to AGERPRES.

During the talks the sides also praised the quality of the high-level political and military dialogue, underlining that at operational level, the Romanian-Italian military cooperation provides for additional development opportunities in various fields.

Romania’s Defence Minister also said he is optimistic about the development of bilateral cooperation, also as part of the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps – Italy (NRDC-IT), and the Headquarters Multinational Division South East in Romania.

Other subjects on the agenda of the talks referred to the defence budget of two percent of GDP Romania is to allocate over the next 10 years, the regional security situation and cooperation under the NATO and the European Union aegis.
