Hot weather warnings for 24 counties and Bucharest, until Saturday evening

The National Weather Administration (ANM) on Friday issued a series of code yellow and code oranges alerts, first for hot weather, with warnings in this case valid starting Saturday morning, for counties in Central, North-Eastern, Eastern, South-Eastern Romania, and then for weather instability, for counties in the Western regions of the country.

Thus, on Saturday, August 12, between 9:00 am-6 pm, a code orange will be in place for extremely hot weather, in the lowest areas of the country, Central and Eastern regions, on extended areas, with the temperature-humidity index (ITU) expected to reach and even exceed the critical threshold of 80 units. Especially in the Mehedinti and Dolj counties, the thermal discomfort will be accentuated, with temperatures to often reach 38-39 degrees Celsius.

Thermal discomfort will be felt and maximum temperatures are also expected to reach between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius, until Saturday, 6 pm, in the Bucharest municipality and in other 23 counties in Muntenia, Northern and Eastern Oltenia, southern Banat and in the largest part of Moldavia and Transylvania.

According to meteorologists, a code yellow for weather instability will be valid starting Saturday afternoon until Sunday, at noon, in the Western regions, with heavy rainfalls, electric discharges, storms and hail also expected.

In Mehedinti, Caras-Severin, Timis, Arad, Bihor and Hunedoara counties, as well as in the mountain area of Cluj, Alba and Gorj counties, especially during the night between Saturday and Sunday (August 12-13) there are expected large quantities of precipitations of over 50-60 liters per square meter and 80-90 liters per square meters respectively.

Moreover, in the same interval, in Maramures, Northern Crisana, Western Transylvania and southern and Eastern Oltenia, a code yellow for precipitations will be issued, with water quantities expected to exceed 25-30 liters per square meter and even 50 liters per square meters, in some places.

ANM also specified that, on Sunday afternoon (August 13) and in the debut of the night between Sunday and Monday (August 13-14), the weather instability will also hit the other regions, although on smallest territories.

On the other hand, the largest part of Muntenia, and also in some parts of Dobrogea and Moldavia, thermal discomfort will be high and maximum temperatures will reach up to 35 degrees Celsius.
