The Save Romania Union (USR) filed on Friday with the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) a criminal complaint against Chamber of Deputies Speaker Liviu Dragnea for abuse of office, forgery and use of forgery, USR deputy Ionut Mosteanu said upon leaving the DNA headquarters.
“The criminal complaint refers to the offenses of abuse of office, forgery, and use of forgery. Specifically, Mr. Liviu Dragnea signed and sent on Monday to the Official Journal the decision to convene the Chamber of Deputies sitting in absence of the approval of the Chamber’s Standing Bureau. The Standing Bureau was supposed to meet only on Tuesday at 11:00 hrs, but Liviu Dragnea himself was absent from this meeting of the Standing Bureau, as were the other colleagues; therefore, the meeting lacked quorum and we consider this a case of abuse of office,” Ionut Mosteanu explained.
On Tuesday Deputy Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Florin Iordache, who took over Liviu Dragnea’s responsibilities as head of the House, said the extraordinary session of the Chamber was called following a phone consultation of the Secretary general with the members of the Standing Bureau and floor leaders. Iordache said that the deputies of the Social Democratic Party, the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats, the People’s Movement Party and the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania were in favor of the meeting, resulting in a vote of nine to two (the Liberal deputies) plus three abstentions. Therefore, the House Speaker called the extraordinary session based on this phone consultation Iordache explained.
The meeting of the Standing Bureau scheduled for Tuesday did not take place for lack of quorum and the extraordinary session of the Chamber of Deputies wrapped up after the plenary sitting.
