DefMin, Canada ambassador discuss rendering operational Romania-based multinational brigade

Minister of National Defence Adrian Tutuianu met on Tuesday at the ministry headquarters with ambassador of Canada Kevin Hamilton, with whom he discussed, inter alia, the rendering operational of the Romania-based multinational brigade, in the context of the Canadian Army contributing general staff personnel, the Ministry of National Defence said in a release to AGERPRES.

The sides also tackled the subject of air and naval capabilities being deployed to Romania as part of the Allied reassurance package.

Minister Tutuianu welcomed the arrival to Romania of the four Canadian Air Force CF-188 Hornets that will carry out air policing missions along with Romanian Air Force aircraft as part of the NATO plan to strengthen its eastern flank, the cited source said. At the same time, Adrian Tutuianu highlighted Canada’s significant contribution to the implementation of the decisions taken at the NATO Summit in Warsaw to ensure a deterrence and defense posture on the Alliance’s eastern flank.

The two officials also highlighted the importance of continuing, developing and enhancing cooperation between the two armies, focusing on both bilateral and multinational exercises.

Last but not least, the Romanian Minister thanked the Canadian authorities for their inviting Romania to join the INVICTUS GAMES to be held this year in Toronto. The Defence Ministry states that Romania lines up 15 athletes, servicemen injured in theaters of operations.
