ANI found an unjustified difference of more than EUR 1 million between the assets and the income of the former manager of the Loan Guarantee Fund for SMEs

The National Integrity Agency (ANI) found an unjustified difference of more than EUR 1 million between the assets and the income of the former manager of the Loan Guarantee Fund for SMEs, Aurel Saramet, and it notified the Committee for the Investigation of Assets within the Bucharest Court of Appeal, in order to start the verification.

“The National Integrity Agency found the existence of an unjustified difference of RON 4,868,494 (approx. EUR 1,058,828.62) between the assets obtained and the income gained by Saramet Aurel during the term of his public position. Considering the above, the National Integrity Agency notified the Committee for the Investigation of Assets within the Bucharest Court of Appeal, in order to start the verification on the patrimonial changes occurred and the income gained by Saramet Aurel during the term of his public position” ANI announced on Monday.

The institution also announced that Saramet was informed about the beginning of the evaluation proceeding, about the rights he has – to be assisted or represented by a lawyer, and to present data or information which he deems necessary, personally or by sending a written point of view – as well as about the existence of the major differences. He didn’t submit a point of view to the evaluation file.

Aurel Saramet held the position of the Manager of the National Loan Guarantee Fund for Small and Medium Enterprises since December 20, 2004 to November 6, 2013.

According to his statement of assets drafted when he left this position, dated December 4, 2013, Saramet had an urban land bought in 2003, an agricultural land of 4.5 hectares in Constanta County, bought in 2004, and he also held a share of 14 hectares from a 28-hectare extra-urban land, bought in 2005.

He had three houses acquired in 2001 and 2002, two of them in Bucharest, and for the biggest one, having an area of 373 sqm, the locality in which it is located is not visible.

Saramet had two Mercedes cars, bought in 2003 and 2007. He also mentioned in his statement of assets jewelry, numismatic collections and paintings of a total amount of EUR 229,000.

Aurel Saramet had three bank accounts in amount of RON 2,722,700, RON 398,000 and EUR 12,000.

The annual income received from the Loan Guarantee Fund for SMEs was RON 743,957.

Saramet also obtained RON 323,322 from collaborations with Sf. Gheorghe Local Guarantee Fund, the Romanian Counter-Guarantee Fund, Small Finance, SOCET SA and Finas Consulting.

In 2012, Aurel Saramet was accused in a bank fraud case with a loss of EUR 22 million, according to DIICOT.
