Representatives of 18 ethnic minorities take part in ‘Alphabet of Intercommunity’ Festival in Ploiesti

At the end of this week, the representatives of no less than 18 ethnic minorities living in Romania have met in Ploiesti. The meeting will take place during an event organised under the aegis of diversity, originality and multiculturalism, bearing in mind that Prahova County’s municipal seat will host the fifth edition of the ‘Alphabet of Intercommunity’ inter-ethnic festival.

In partnership with the Greek Union in Romania and the Ministry of Culture and National Identity, on September 22-24, the Ploiesti City Hall organises the fifth edition of the ‘Alphabet of Intercommunity’ Festival.  According to its schedule, members of 18 ethnic minorities will take part in the event, alongside the representatives of Ploiesti-based cultural institutions. The participants are: ‘League of Albanians’ Association, Union of Armenians, Bulgarian Union from Banat, Union of Croatians, Greek Union, Germans’ Democratic Forum, Association of Italians, Hungarian Democratic Union, Union of Poles, PRO-EUROPA Roma Party Association, Community of Lipovan Russians, Cultural Union of Ruthenians, Union of Serbians, Democratic Union of Slovaks and Czechs, Democratic Union of Serbians, Democratic Union of Turkish-Muslim Tatars, Democratic Turkish Union, Union of Ukrainians – all from Romania. The three-day festival will feature shows and concerts given by the representatives of the aforementioned ethnic minorities, by the ‘Paul Constantinescu’ Philharmonic of Ploiesti, the ‘Flacara Prahovei’ Folk Orchestra etc. The events will take place on the municipality’s most important boulevard – the Boulevard of Independence or the Boulevard of Chestnut-trees as the people of Ploiesti call it. As announced by organisers, the inter-ethnic festival started on Friday, September , with a parade involving the main participant ensembles and the folk costumes’ parade. Subsequently, the official opening took  place in the presence of authorities and guests, on the stage prepared in the southern part of the Boulevard of Chestnut-trees. During the festival, the public will be able to admire novel handmade creations at a fair organised on the said boulevard, which will be closed to traffic.

At the same time, the public will be able to see and appreciate the traditions, civilisation and culture of the 18 ethnic minorities represent at the event, by visiting the presentation stands set up in the aforementioned area. Likewise, a street food area will be set up, where the savour of traditional dishes or the culinary experience of unusual recipes will stimulate the senses of those who appreciate proper cuisine.

The ‘Alphabet of Intercommunity’ Festival has the main role of promoting the spirit of mutual understanding and knowledge, which comes to confirm the cosmopolitan existence of Ploiesti, a European city that respects people, traditions and values.
