Minister of Tourism presents European Commissioner Elzbieta Bienkowska masterplan of investment in tourism

The masterplan of investments in tourism, a document that has recently been adopted at Government level has been presented by the Minister of Tourism Mircea Dobre during the meeting he had in Brussels with European Commissioner for internal market, industry, entrepreneurship and SMEs Elzbieta Bienkowska, reads a release of the Ministry sent to AGERPRES on Tuesday.

The Romanian official is currently paying a visit to Belgium’s capital, over September 26 – 28, where he participates in a series of actions of interest in the tourism field. On the occasion, he will have meetings with European officials and counterparts from other EU member states, so as to identify joint stands in the tourism field for the time Romania will hold the presidency of the EU Council.

Minister Mircea Dobre on Tuesday presented to the European Commissioner that masterplan of investments in tourism that has been recently adopted by the Romanian Government and underscored the need for identifying some financing lines for the local and central public authorities wanting to implement certain public infrastructure projects in tourism, especially for the winter sports, but also for the leisure or adventure areas.

In this context, European Commissioner Elzbieta Bienkowska pointed out the fact that tourism represents one of the industrial sectors that deserves much more attention from the national and European institutions, which will be taken into consideration during negotiations for the next multi-annual financial plan.

“With respect to collaborative economy and online platforms operating in the tourism field, there is a certain concern at European institutions level in view of identifying such regulation solutions, to allow the quantification of revenues recorded in this sector, and to protect the competitive framework and the final beneficiary’s rights. Thus, the permanent exchange of data between authorities and the member states and the European institution can contribute of a significant manner to the rapid identification of the necessary solutions, and also to the shaping of some good practices meant to support their steps towards an efficient integration of the collaborative economy, within the national economies,” says the same source.

On Wednesday, Minister Mircea Dobre held  a speech at the high-level conference “An European strategy for increasing competition in the tourism industry, a key-factor for creating new jobs,” organized by the European Parliament. Participating in the event were  both European Parliament President Antonio Tajani as well as European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and the Vice-President of the European Commission Jyrki Kataien.

The Romanian Government adopted a decision discussed at the meeting of August 3, 2017, the Multi-annual Programme for the development of investments in tourism and the approval of the eligibility criteria of investments projects in the tourism field. According to the Executive, the Multi-annual Programme, titled ‘The Masterplan of Investments in Tourism,’ has as its main objective the development of local communities in the tourism areas with high potential, through boosting public investments in tourism infrastructure.
