Former Culture Minister Vlad Alexandrescu (photo) announced on Saturday, through a Facebook post, that he filed his candidacy for the Save Romania Union (USR) President, and the decision will be made at the Extraordinary Congress of the party since October 28, which will be held in Brasov. He is the second candidate enrolled in the competition for the USR presidency, the first one being MP Dan Barna.
“I filed my candidacy today for the position of the Save Romania Union President. My program has four priorities: USR – a modern, strong and active party, open to the citizen’s agenda; ; a doctrine based on common principles and values; leading the party on a common path, decisions based on rules, principles and values; consolidation by extending the branches and a working manner based on efficient teams” Alexandrescu wrote on Facebook.
He says that he wishes a strong party that will be “a force of the opposition against PSD and a credible alternative in the Romanian politics”.
On September 16, MP Dan Barna announced that he will run for the USR presidency, the position being vacant after Nicusor Dan left the party.
The current interim leader of the party, Elek Levente, said that he decided not to run for the party’s presidency, the only circumstance in which he would do this being if he would had the impression that the persons who wish to become the president could divide the party.
