First meeting between JusMin Toader and US Ambassador Klemm after the war of statements on Justice Bills. The two officials attend the opening of the academic year at the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University (UAIC) of Iasi

In a speech to the opening of the academic year at the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University (UAIC) of Iasi, Justice Minister Tudorel Toader emphasised the role of the university in the Romanian and international academic landscape, stating that the UAIC alumni “have European and international vocation “.

“Thanks to 15 faculties, nearly 1,900 employees – professors, scientific researchers, non-academic staff – and over 26,000 students, our university shines a light on the city of Iasi, while fulfilling its educational mission, contributing to the development of science and culture. While retaining the feeling of national affiliation, our graduates have European and international vocation, as they can be found in public and private sectors, in the country and abroad, in the fundamental public institutions, in research and learning facilities. Our university has collaborative partnerships in the field of education and scientific research with more than 112 universities and research institutes all over the world, thus being connected to the modern standards of science and education,” said Toader.

He made a call to unity among the academic community.

“At the beginning of the academic year, my thoughts go to the entire academic community, because only together can we honour the past, only together can we ensure our presence in the family of the most prestigious universities of the world,” Toader said.

Also attending the event were the Education Minister Liviu Pop, the ambassador of the United States of America in Bucharest Hans Klemm, and Austrian Ambassador Gerhard Reiweger, to whom Toader unveiled his desire for education collaboration.

“Your Excellencies, Messrs ambassadors, I am expressing a conviction that your visit is a good opportunity to meet the oldest university in Romania, a modern university at the same time, a good opportunity to develop and consolidate collaborations in the fields of education and research between UAIC Iasi and similar institutions from the countries that you honourably represent,” said Toader.

US Ambassador Klemm: It is an opportunity to strengthen ties between US and Romanian education institutions

US Ambassador to Romania Hans Klemm underscored in Iasi on Monday the need to strengthen the collaboration in the education area between Romania and the US.

Attending the opening of the university year at the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iasi, Klemm said he finds that such a collaboration represents an opportunity for US students to study in Romania and for Romanian students to be trained in the US.

“The first remark I am making refers to the already existing cooperation between the US and Romania, in respect to the high level of education, the increase in the opportunities for US students of working and studying in Romania and for Romanian students and scholarship recipients to work and study in the US. I believe it is a good opportunity to go further, to strengthen these programs and the ties existing between the high-level education institutions of the two countries”, the US Ambassador said.
