Arrivals at tourist accommodation establishments in Romania in August 2017 amounted to 1.694 million, up 7.8 percent from the same month of 2016, with most of them (80.1 percent) being Romanian tourists.
According to data with the National Statistics Institute (INS) data, foreign tourists accounted for 19.9 percent, similar to August 2016.
Regarding the arrivals of foreign tourists at the tourist accommodation establishments, the largest share was held by those from Europe (73.9 percent of the total foreign tourists) and 88.1 percent of them coming from elsewhere in the European Union.
Overnight stays at tourist accommodation establishments in August 2017 totalled 4.537 million, up 3.8 percent from August 2016.
Of the total number of overnight stays, those of Romanian tourists at the accommodation establishments accounted for 85.3 percent in August 2017, while the foreign tourists’ overnight stays, 14.7 percent. Regarding the overnight stays of foreign tourists at Romania’s tourist accommodation establishments, the largest share was held by those from Europe (70.1 percent of all foreign tourists), and 87 percent of them came from elsewhere in the European Union.
The average length of stay in August 2017 was 2.9 days for Romanian tourists and two days for foreign tourists.
Net occupancy of Romania’s tourist accommodation establishments in August 2017 was 47.8 percent per total tourist accommodation establishments, up 0.2 percent from August 2016.
Higher occupancy rates in August 2017 were reported by hotels (58.2 percent), tourist villas (44.9 percent), bungalows (39.0 percent), holiday villages (37.2 percent) and hostels (35.3 percent).
The number of arrivals of foreign visitors to Romania registered at border crossing points was 1.520 million in August 2017, up 19.6 percent from the same month of 2016. Most foreign visitors came from Europe (89.1 percent).
Of the total arrivals of foreign visitors to Romania, 48.6 percent came from elsewhere in the European Union. Among the EU countries, most arrivals were from Bulgaria (22.7 percent), Hungary (20.8 percent), Germany (11.0 percent), Italy (9.3 percent), Poland (6.4 percent) And France (5.2 percent).
Departures of Romanian visitors abroad registered at border crossing points were 2.535 million in August 2017, up 34.4 percent from August 2016.
The means of road transport were the most used for departures abroad, representing 74.7 percent of the total number of departures.
Arrivals at the accommodation establishments in the first eight months of 2017 totalled 8.302 million, up 11.2 percent from the same period of 2016.
Of the total number of arrivals, Romanians accounted for 77.5 percent in the first eight months, while foreign tourists accounted for 22.5 percent, weights similar to those for the same period of 2016.
As regards foreign tourists’ arrivals, the largest share was held by those from Europe (74.8 percent of total foreign tourists), and 85.9 percent of them were from elsewhere in the EU.
Most arrivals of foreign tourists originated in Germany (221,700), Israel (193,700), Italy (162,200), France (112,000), Hungary (107,500).
The average length of stay in the first eight months of 2017 was 2.4 days for Romanian tourists and 1.9 days for foreign tourists.
