Congratulatory message of Romania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the National Day of the Republic of Cyprus: “We are constantly looking for ways of expanding our cooperation, in all the fields of common interest”

The occasion of the National Day of the Republic of Cyprus, on the 1st of October, offers to the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs the great pleasure to extend the warmest congratulations to all the Cypriot people.

Cypriot people attach special importance to their national anniversary, which celebrates the historic moment of becoming an independent state, with an important role in the development of the Republic of Cyprus towards today’s thriving and democratic society.

The current relations between Romania and the Republic of Cyprus have reached a high level of understanding and cooperation, defined by a constructive political dialogue, a growing economic partnership and a mutual support in promoting common objectives within EU, as well as at regional and international levels.

Along with the political contacts and closely linked to them, the economic exchanges constantly increased. Thus, the Republic of Cyprus remains the 4th foreign investor in Romania, with more than 5000 companies active on our national market and over 4 billion euros of subscribed capital. The economic grow of our country and the excellent opportunities it offers in various areas are incentives for increased investments by the Cypriot companies. The bilateral format of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission for economic, industrial and technical cooperation provides an adequate framework to discuss about ways and means of further strengthening the economic relations between our countries.

We are constantly looking for ways of expanding our cooperation, in all the fields of common interest, through joint initiatives and projects, to the mutual benefit of our countries and people.

Beyond all these achievements, our relation would not be a truly successful one without the Romanian community living and working in Cyprus. We thank the authorities for their support to preserving their identity in terms of culture, language and spirituality.

This year’s celebration of 60 years since the signature of the Treaty of Rome that laid the foundations of the European Union, as well as the current debate regarding the future of the European project provide us with a renewed opportunity to working together in order to reinforce our EU partnership.

Both countries support a Union of results, of solidarity, a flexible Union close to its citizens, based on its fundamental values and principles.  In this spirit, Romania is preparing to assume its first Presidency of the EU Council in the first semester of 2019 and pleads for pro-European solutions and policies that will bring added value to the integration process.

It is worth recalling a short fragment from the 2017 Rome Declaration of the European leaders, saying “We will make the European Union stronger and more resilient, through even greater unity and solidarity amongst us and the respect of common rules. Unity is both a necessity and our free choice”. It is our firm belief that a truly united Europe cannot be without united European nations. Therefore, let these words inspire all our future thoughts and acts, in a solidary endeavour to reach unity in diversity, just like we are all united, though diverse, in the great European family.

Romania shares the joy of the celebration of the historic day of October 1st and wishes all Cypriots a Happy National Day!
