President’s spokesperson announces CSAT meeting next Tuesday. Iohannis to welcome EU Council’s President Tusk on Friday

The Supreme Council for National Defence (CSAT) will meet next Tuesday, President Iohannis’s spokesperson Madalina Dobrovolschi announced.

“On Tuesday, starting 14:00hrs, here, at the Cotroceni Palace, the meeting of the Supreme Council for National Defence is to take place, a meeting that will be chaired, as usual, by President Klaus Iohannis,” presidential spokesperson Dobrovolschi told a press conference.

She mentioned that the topics regarding the Permanent Structured Cooperation – PESCO and its implications for Romania will be analysed.

“Taking into account the importance of this topic for the European Union and, especially for Romania, Romania’s President assessed such discussion is necessary within the CSAT,” Dobrovolschi said.

The spokesperson of the head of state mentioned that also discussed will be aspects regarding the recent developments related to the activation of this mechanism, its effect for Romania, as well as the political decision regarding the possible involvement of our country in the Permanent Structured Cooperation format.

“At basis of these discussions lies the commitment took on at the European Union level both on the operational dimension, and in respect to developing the military capacity through multinational solutions,” Dobrovolschi concluded.


President Iohannis to welcome EU Council’s President Tusk, to attend European summit next week


Romania’s President Klaus Iohannis on Friday will welcome President of the European Council Donald Tusk at Cotroceni Palace, presidential spokesperson Madalina Dobrovolschi announced on Tuesday.

Dobrovolschi told a news conference on Tuesday that the main item on the agenda of the two officials’ talks will be the future of the European Union.

She also announced that on October 19 and 20, Iohannis will be in Brussels to attend a summit of the European Council meeting that discusses migration, digital Europe, security and defence issues, as well as EU’s external relations, with emphasis on the relationship between the European Union and Turkey.
