Patriarch Daniel of Romania’s Christian Orthodox Church (BOR) welcomed on Thursday Germany’s ambassador to Romania Cord Meier-Klodt on a presentation visit, voicing hope that the good Romanian-German relations will contribute to the unity of Europe and mutually beneficial cooperation.

Patriarch Daniel congratulated the new ambassador and wished him good luck with his diplomatic mission in Romania.

According to a press statement of the BOR Press Office, the Patriarch appreciated the support of the Catholic and Protestant communities for the approximately five hundred thousand Romanians in Germany.

The German diplomat thanked him for the honour to be welcomed and praised the Christian Orthodox Church for its “important and balanced” role in the Romanian society.

Meier-Klodt believes that the important events of late have revealed that “the European Union is not a given, but rather a process that must be supported.”

The ambassador also voiced availability to be a close partner of Romania in the demarches that can highlight the stability of the European project.
