The National Day of the Republic of Austria offers the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs the great pleasure to convey the warmest congratulations to the Austrian people.
The 26th of October celebrates the re-establishment of the Austria as a fully independent country and its declaration of permanent neutrality, which has become a deeply ingrained element of Austrian identity. Austria made a great contribution to the world’s cultural and historical patrimony, being the home country of remarkable personalities like Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Johann Strauss, Gustav Klimt and others.
The substance of the bilateral relations between Romania and Austria is rooted in our economic common cooperation, as well as in our common historical and cultural background.
Austrian investments in Romania, ranking second position with more than 4.9 billions Euro through more than 7333 companies are proof of the solid economic ties between the two countries, but also of the profitability of the Romanian market.
Cultural ties have found expression in countless common projects and people-to-people connections, which positively influenced our relations.
The strength of our relationship also derives from our nationals abroad-Romanians living, working and studying in Austria and the Austrians living in Romania. Moreover, we highly value the significant contribution brought by Austrian involvement to the development of dual education in Romania. The human connections between our two countries are of paramount significance, building real bridges, which will not fade in the face of time.
In the last years, the European continent faced multiple challenges of an unprecedented nature. However, the European Union came to life because visionary leaders came together and tackled the challenges Europe was facing at that time and ensured long-term peace in Europe. It is in this context, that Austria will assume the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2018 and then will hand on the chair to Romania in 2019.
We need to contribute to the rebirth of the European project by focusing on what unites us, shared values and principles, and ensuring immediate action. Now more than ever, EU’s force lies in cohesion, solidarity and innovative future. Our countries need to deepen cooperation in all fields in order to find pro-European solutions, which will deepen the integration process and regain European citizens’ confidence.
One of the most prominent examples of our fruitful collaboration is the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region, launched nine years ago. We can use the opportunity of holding successively the Presidency of the Council of the European Union to deepen cooperation and boost our joint initiative.
With confidence that we will deepen our cooperation to cope with unparalleled challenges, we once again extend our congratulations to the Austrian people.
