INS: Unemployment rate down 0.1pct to 5pct in September

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate went down by 0.1 per cent in September 2017 to 5 per cent, compared with the previous month’s figure, reads a release of the National Institute of Statistics on Tuesday.

The number of jobless people (aged 15-74) stood at 462,000 in September 2017, showing a downward trend both compared with the previous month (465,000 persons) and the same month of last year (510,000 people).

By gender, the unemployment rate among men was higher, by 2.3 per cent, than among women (6 per cent for men and 3.7 per cent for women respectively).

For adults (aged 25-74) the estimated unemployment rate accounted for 4.2 per cent in September 2017 (5.2 per cent for men and 2.8 per cent for women). The number of jobless peopled aged 25-74 represented 77.2 per cent of the total number of unemployed estimated for September 2017.
