Former Croatian President, Ivo Josipovic, on a visit to Ploiesti

Having a lot of opportunities in all the areas, and also being one of the important Romanian counties, Prahova continues to be a point of interest for the foreign governmental delegations coming to Romania. Thus, the list of the officials who visited this county this year also includes the former Croatian President from the period between 2010 and 2015, who was in Ploiesti early in November.

The county and local authorities from Prahova received the official visit made early in November, 2017, by a delegation from the Republic of Croatia. The delegation was formed by Ivo Josipovic – President of Croatia between 2010 and 2015, Milena Georgievska – his counselor, Saso Georgievski – the President of the Croatian-Macedonian Tangent. “The main issues related to the opportunities for the economic, commercial and cultural cooperation, as well as the development of potential business cooperation, have been identified at the official meeting. Vice Chairman of the Prahova County Council, Ludmila Sfirloaga, highlighted the business opportunities that can be developed in Prahova by the Croatian investors, assuring them that they will have the support of the county administration. In this context, the two parties also identified the possibility of some bilateral institutional cooperation opportunities in areas of common interest, as well as the perspectives of the development of the relationships between Prahova County and Croatia” announced the Prahova County Council. The meeting was also attended by the Prahova County Prefect, Madalina Lupea, by the Ploiesti Mayor Adrian Dobre, and by the President of the Prahova Chamber of Commerce and industry, Aurelian Gogulescu. At the same time, within the dialogue between the Ploiesti Mayor and the former Croatian President, the possibility of the public-private partnerships at the level of the local communities and the opportunity of developing twinning relationships in order to have an economic, commercial, cultural and interinstitutional cooperation between the capital city of the Prahova County and Croatian cities, were also highlighted. Not at last, on the occasion of this visit, the Croatian delegation attended the “Top of the Prahova Companies 2017” Gala, a traditional event organized by the Prahova Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Ivo Josipovic has previously visited Romania in early June, 2012, as the President of the Republic of Croatia, being invited by the former Romanian President, who at that time was Traian Basescu. Then, after a visit to Bucharest, he also went to Timisoara, where, after having held talks with the authorities and visiting several objectives, he also had a brief meeting with the Croatian community. Ivo Josipovic was the President of Croatia since February 18, 2010 until February 15, 2015.

In December 2009, Josipovic won more votes than his 11 opponents, qualifying in the second round of elections held in January 2010. Before the electoral campaign, he wasn’t well known to the general Croatian public, but he won the second round of the presidential elections. The main idea of his campaign was “A new justice”; he demanded a new legal and social framework for treating the problems of the social injustices and corruption. He wished to continue his mandate, but in the second round of the 2015 presidential elections he was defeated by the conservative candidate Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović.
