Former ANAF President Bogdan Stan confirmed as Court of Accounts adviser, for a 9-year term

Former Romanian Tax Authority (ANAF) President Bogdan Stan was confirmed by Parliament on Tuesday as adviser within the Court of Accounts, for a 9-year term. Vasile Gherasim was confirmed on a similar position.

The decisions were taken via secret ballot.

MPs had to confirm two of the three candidates green-lighted by the parliamentary committees: Vasile Gherasim, Bogdan Stan and Claudia Boghicevici.

Vasile Gherasim was confirmed in a 245-112 vote, Bogdan Stan in a 250-107 vote, while Claudia Boghicevici received 139 votes in favour and 218 against. At the same time, 15 ballots were cancelled. Thus, Vasile Gherasim and Bogdan Stan were confirmed as Court of Accounts advisers for a 9-year term that starts on 7 November 2017.

As part of the same process, Parliament also confirmed Sorin Grindeanu at the helm of ANCOM.

Appointed ANAF President on January 13, Bogdan Stan was sacked on July 18 by Premier Mihai Tudose, who expressed his dissatisfaction with the rate of tax collection. Subsequently, Tudose appointed Stan as Vice President of ANAF.

Vasile Gherasim has been member of PSD and PDL, Mayor of Bucharest’s District 1, and Lower House member. In 2016, he became Bucharest Mayor Gabriela Firea’s adviser tasked with monitoring investment objectives.
