USR’s Barna: Gov’t, Parliament have operated as law firm for Liviu Dragnea

National leader of the opposition Save Romania Union (USR) Dan Barna, argued in Timisoara on Saturday that the Government and Parliament have over the past year operated as a law and maintenance firm for legally embattled national leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) , Liviu Dragnea.

“It is a pity that for a year Romania has had a totally different agenda from the citizens’ real agenda or from the European agenda we are part of. For one year, the Government and the Parliament of Romania has done nothing but operate as a law and maintenance firm for Liviu Dragnea. We have been dealing with individual criminal problems of some leaders,” said Barna, according to Agerpres.

In his opinion, the time should have been spent instead on discussing Romania’s positions on the Franco-German hard core in Europe, on migration, and on other European policies.

“All this does not exist in the public discourse and citizens’ dialogue, because the incumbent government has transformed the petty criminal stakes of several leaders into the national development strategy of Romania. For one year, that’s all we have been doing. That is why our initiative ?No legally embattled in public position ‘ comes from such perspective. Had we not had legally embroiled people in our country’s leadership, we would have discussed such themes, Europe, social policies, economic development instead of what has happened,” Barna said.

Barna attended on Saturday a conference called “The future of Europe is Romania’s future: The First step towards Sibiu 2019,” organised by USR Timis, where a EUSR platform was released, “inviting all human resources in Brussels to support Romania’s stands and initiatives corroborated and in line with what is happening elsewhere in Europe. ”

Barna said the debate is the first inside USR the party trying to bring on the national public agenda the decision about the future of Europe. ”We can see En Marche, a party that has changed political logic in France (…), and today’s debate, to which other political families – the Greens, ALDE Europe – are invited, is designed to show the USR members alternatives and directions to help us make the best decisions around the 2019 European parliamentary elections,” added Barna.

USR’s position on the future of Europe, as a European, modernising, European Liberal party, is in support of private initiatives, the development of the middle class, all of which Romania needs inherently, beyond political ideology. ”USR is the only self-proclaimed pro-European party [in Rumania] and close to Europe’s France -Germany hard core, advocating for more integration and development. The idea of ??nationalist currents, which unfortunately have put down roots in the neighbouring countries of Hungary and Poland, is not one that can lead Romania on the right track,” said Barna.
