Letter of Offer and Acceptance for Patriot systems’ purchase signed in presence of DefMin, U.S. ambassador

National Defence Minister Mihai Fifor and ambassador of the United States of America to Romania Hans Klemm attended on Wednesday the signing ceremony of the Letter of Offer and Acceptance for the purchase of the Patriot long-range surface-to-air missile systems, a release by the Ministry of National Defence (MApN) informs.

The Patriot systems will enter the endowment of the Romanian Army’s Land Forces and Air Forces in the second half of 2019, with the first system due to become operational at mid-2020.

“The purchase of the seven surface-to-air missile systems is to our country an essential security interest, considering that by the accomplishment of the ground-based air defence capability, the national and regional security is ensured, this approach also contributing significantly to the enhancement of the Strategic Partnership with the United States of America,” the release adds.
