Romania has been a significant destination for Foreign Direct Investments over the past few years, creating thousands of jobs and increasing demand for industrial, commercial and residential real estate. It is only a matter of time before the infrastructure projects needed in order to sustain such dynamic investment environment are launched. And for all of these segments LafargeHolcim is known to have the widest and the most sophisticated building solutions locally available with a successful track record that includes many high profile projects and iconic landmarks.
Contributing to this are our 800 people producing and delivering technologically advanced solutions, serving all regions in the country through our 2 cement plants in Câmpulung and Aleșd, our 14 ecological concrete stations, 3 aggregate stations, 2 special binders stations and three cement terminals, in Turda, Bucharest and Roman.
What was your opinion on Romania two years ago, before taking office, and how do you see it now?
SB: Seen from the outside, Romania is the land of famous artists and sports men and women. I also knew it was home to dozens of recognized cement professionals with whom I had the chance to work at LafargeHolcim. Little did I know it was home to some of the most beautiful landscapes, excellent wines and gastronomy.
What does Holcim Romania represent within the LafargeHolcim Group?
SB: For the past 20 years, we have been busy building a world class cement manufacturing Romanian business focused around Health & Safety, sustainability, industrial performance, customer excellence, people and communities. 700M Euros of investments later, we managed to make our Câmpulung and Aleșd plants first and second of the LafargeHolcim Group, among over 200 plants in 80 countries.
What projects have you implemented in 2017 and what are your future plans?
SB: Holcim Romania is committed to building on its industrial leadership in order to bring its commercial transformation everywhere in Romania and deliver on its Ambitions: The 2030 Plan focused around CO2 emissions reduction, water, local communities and circular economy. We will therefore keep investing in our waste co-processing capacity to further improve our communities’ life quality. Our cement depots and terminals, such as our latest state of the art Roman terminal, will keep being expanded in the years to come to make our solutions available to even more Romanians.
Also, it is our ambition to be the most innovative player in the construction industry and to anticipate on the global trends that will soon impact Romania, such as digital, urbanization and professionalization. This is why we have launched the widest range of bag products throughout the country, the most innovative concrete solutions such as Agilia (self-compacting concrete) or Chronolia (fast setting concrete), and StartCasa, the very first digital platform providing professional support to individual home builders.
2018 will be another year of exciting achievements, but 2017 is yet to see another major digital innovation, the first online ready-mix selling platform, which will be launched shortly.
Needless to say that our ambition for the year to come is to keep delivering the most innovative and sustainable solutions to fulfil our customers’ ambitions and communities’ dreams, so Romania Builds better!
