The National Chamber Choir “Madrigal – Marin Constantin” starts its national Christmas Tour

From December 8 to 19, the National Chamber Choir “Madrigal – Marin Constantin” will be in a national tour, bringing the news of the winter holidays to the Romanians from all over the country, through songs interpreted in the unique, full of grace and thrilling manner of the most famous Romanian choir ensemble. The Madrigal Choir will perform at Caracal, Bacau, Bistrita and Tirgu Mures; the tour will end in Bucharest with the two extraordinary Christmas concerts in December 18 and 19, at the Romanian Athenaeum.

Through a continuous tradition of more than 50 years, the choir ensemble annually bring the excitement and the joy of Christmas in the Romanians’ souls, through the magic of the perfect interpretation and through the chosen repertory. The schedule of the Christmas concerts will include famous songs in the international repertory that are specific to the birth of the Lord, such as “Stille Nacht”, as well as Romanian traditional songs such as „Leru-i, Doamne, Ler”, „Noi umblam și colindam” or „Vine Craciunu` pe sara”.

“This year, I tried to include in the program song that can be easily recognized by the audience, which they start to sing involuntarily, but I also introduced new musical compositions, because Madrigal has always assumed this role to promote the valuable repertory which is not so well known.  Was concerned in maintaining a balance between modern tones, through the presence of the contemporary composers, without ignoring classical interpretations, as well as to keep a certain harmony in terms of the repertory, between the songs of a Romanian inspiration and the international ones. Each time, through these Christmas concerts, we wish to bring joy and excitement of the holy feast of the Nativity in the hearts of the listeners, giving them, through music, a small part of the greatness of this moment” stated Anna Ungureanu, the main conductor of the National Chamber Choir “Madrigal – Marin Constantin”.

The first concert of the tour held by the Madrigal Choir will take place on December 8 at the National Theater in Caracal, starting at 18.00, under the coordination of the second conductor of the choir ensemble Cezar Verlan. The tour will continue with the main conductor Anna Ungureanu, on December 10 in Bacau, with a performance at the Show Hall of the Radu Beligan Summer Theater (at 17.00). Next will be a concert in Bistrita, with a recital held at the Culture Palace on December 12 (at 18.00), and on December 13 at the Culture Palace in Tirgu Mures (at 19.00). The end of the tour will be marked by the already traditional presence on the stage of the Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest, on December 18 and 19, starting at 19.30.

In the break of the concert held at the Romanian Athenaeum, the audience in Bucharest will enjoy another musical surprise: there will be a mini-recital held in the foyer by a couple of hundreds of children from the choirs of the Cantus Mundi National Program, coming from all over the country, who will be coordinated by the second conductor of the National Chamber Choir “Madrigal – Marin Constantin”, Cezar Verlan.

The National Chamber Choir “Madrigal – Marin Constantin”, the most appreciated local professional choir ensemble , is a symbol of the Romanian and universal musical life. Since it was established, in 1963, by conductor Marin Constantin (1925-2011), Madrigal Choir held more than 4,100 concerts applauded by music lovers from all around the world, thus imposing itself as a real “country brand”. It is the world standard of the chamber choir music, with a repertory oriented to the European Renaissance, Byzantine music and contemporary Romanian and universal creation.
