Around 8,000 PSD members pay homage to King Mihai in Craiova

Around 8,000 members of PSD Dolj met in downtown Craiova on Sunday, to pay homage to King Mihai by laying wreaths and lighting candles at the statue of the former sovereign, located in the area between the ‘Marin Sorescu’ National Theatre and the University of Craiova.

The participants set out on a silent march from the Craiova City Hall to the Tricolour Square, in the ‘Marin Sorescu’ National Theatre area where a bust of the former Romanian sovereign is located. Candles were lit and wreaths were laid there.

The President of PSD Dolj, Senate Deputy Speaker Claudiu Manda, Labour Minister Olguta Vasilescu, Craiova Mayor Mihail Genoiu, Dolj County Council Chairman Ion Prioteasa, as well as MPs and mayors from the county, were among the participants.

Regular people who wanted to pay their final homage to King Mihai I also took part in the event.

“We are present with our mayors, local councillors, local branch presidents, Youth [branch] leadership, Women’s [branch] leadership, PES Activists, the party’s Seniors’ Organisation. As you know, we cancelled any convening of public rallies the moment His Majesty’s death occurred, and we are here only to pay homage to a very important personality for Craiova, because among the last decrees signed by His Majesty there is the decree on the setting up of the University of Craiova and of the ‘Oltenia’ Philharmonic of Craiova,” Labour Minister Lia Olguta Vasilescu said.
