Tariceanu: The Parliament is bothering many leaders of the parallel system

The Senate’s Speaker Calin Popescu Tariceanu says that the Romanian Parliament is bothering many leaders of the “parallel system”, and their fear that they will lose their positions and power caused “undemocratic reactions beyond the Constitution’s limit”.

“Day by day, I notice that the Romanian Parliament is bothering many leaders of the parallel system. The parliamentarians have “the guts” (with the appropriate quotation marks) to ask questions about their unauthorized interventions in the electoral process and “the boldness” to debate and vote laws that can help stopping the abuses and the violation of the citizens’ rights and freedoms. The fear of these people who are leading the system that they will lose their positions and power caused undemocratic reactions, beyond the Constitution’s limit, including veiled threats against the parliamentarians. Unfortunately, the parallel system is protected by certain politicians who hope that they will reach power again without winning in elections, by being supported by the system” Calin Popescu Tariceanu wrote on Facebook.

The Senate’s Speaker says that the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE) will continue to act against “the undemocratic manifestations of the parallel state”.

“Today, on the Constitution’s Day, I wish to remind you about the article 61 (1) of the fundamental law: ‘The Parliament is the supreme representative body of the Romanian nation and the sole legislator of the country”. I want to say to all the Romanian people that the ALDE parliamentarians will continue to act in order to hinder the undemocratic manifestations of the parallel state and to protect the citizens’ rights and freedoms. At the same time, I am urging all the public institutions, parties and institutional actors to observe Constitution and its principles” Tariceanu also wrote.
