Ambassador George Maior meets Republican senator Marco Rubio, tackle Romanian-US relation’s relevant topics

Romania’s Ambassador to the US, George Cristian Maior met on Tuesday with Republican senator Marco Rubio, Subcommittee Chairman within the Foreign Relations Committee and member of the Intelligence Committee, leading figure of the Republican Party, former candidate in the preliminary elections which designate the Party’s candidate to the Presidency of the United States, Romania’s Embassy in Washington informs.

The two dignitaries tackled relevant topics in the Romanian-American bilateral relation, such as cooperation in the political-military and security domain, the evolutions in the region with a focus on the strategic role in the Black Sea, the economic dimension of the Strategic Partnership, with the intensification of trade exchanges between thew two countries being underscored. Romania’s Ambassador also highlighted our country’s commitment to a solid transatlantic relation as well as to a strong cooperation in the defence line, strengthened by the presence of U.S. forces both in Romania and regionally.

Senator Marco Rubio appreciated Romania’s contribution to the development of the Strategic Partnership in its 20-year life-span, Romania’s strategic ally quality but most importantly our country’s significant contribution to the regional and global security and in addressing the current challenges.

The two officials emphasised the role of the Romanian-American community in Florida in strengthening the Strategic Partnership with the Unites States, senator Marco Rubio expressing his appreciation for the Romanian-American activity’s active involvement in projects relevant for both countries.

The U.S. official pointed out at the same time his interest in pursuing cooperation with the community’s representatives and with the Romanian authorities, from the perspective of opening a new Romanian consular mission in Miami included.

During the meeting, Ambassador George Cristian Maior handed the U.S. dignitary the National Order “the Star of Romania” in rank of “Commander”, conferred by President Klaus Iohannis on the occasion of this year’s anniversary of 20 years of Strategic Partnership between Romania and the United States of America, as a token of profound appreciation for his personal involvement in the excellent bilateral political, military and economic cooperation.
