GEFCO Romania, a subsidiary of the GEFCO Group, a global player in the industrial logistics and a European leader in the automotive logistics, announced the expansion of its collaboration with Ford Motor Company in Romania.
In the context of the recent announcement made by Ford Motor Company regarding the start of producing the Ford EcoSport model in its plant located in Craiova, GEFCO Romania supports the activity of one of its most important clients in the Romanian automotive industry, providing it with customized logistics solutions for the finite vehicles (FVL) and thus adapting to the regional business needs of the company.

This expansion of the collaboration with Ford allows GEFCO Romania to use its long experience in the logistics dedicated to the automotive industry and its expertise constantly developed over the time, in order to provide multimodal logistics solutions to its client. GEFCO Romania will operate the railway transportation of the Ford finite vehicles to the Constanta port and to the West European markets such as Germany, Italy and Benelux countries.
The railway transportation is one of the most competitive transportation solutions provided by GEFCO, since it has economic and ecological benefits for the goods for which the delivery time is essential, such as those produced by the automotive industry. Thus, GEFCO Romania strengthens the competitiveness of its client, providing it with a fast transportation solution and managing to deliver finite Ford vehicles to the markets in Italy and Benelux in only 4 days, and to Germany in 5 days. Besides, GEFCO Romania is the only logistics operator that provides railway transportation services for the export flows of the plant in Craiova, this kind of services helping to cost-efficiency and being much more environmentally friendly. For this logistics operations, GEFCO Romania also provides road transportation services, as an auxiliary solution.
GEFCO Romania started its local collaboration with Ford in 2012, by managing the automaker’s input flows through road transportation solutions. The next step of this collaboration was made in 2016, when GEFCO Romania started to provide the transportation of the finite vehicles and distribution services for the Ford’s plant in Craiova. Thus, the railway transportation solution provided by GEFCO facilitated the export of the Ford B-Max model to the German market.
Developing with its clients and benefiting from this new business opportunity for the Ford plant in Craiova, GEFCO will provide the transportation for volumes which are three times higher than those previously shipped, Italy and Benelux being also added to the previous destination markets.
GEFCO Romania devoted its efforts to support this collaboration by allocating a dedicated logistics team in Craiova, near the Ford plant, in order to meet its client’s needs as good as possible. Also, the railway transportation operated for Ford will be made with new wagons, owned by GEFCO and specially made for this occasion.
