Turkey’s Deputy Foreign Minister Ahmet Yildiz comes to Bucharest to pay last homage to King Mihai I

Turkey’s Deputy Foreign Minister Ahmet Yildiz will arrive in Bucharest on Saturday in order to pay a last homage to King Mihai I of Romania.

According to a release of Turkey’s Embassy, Minister Ahmet Yildiz will meet representatives of the Royal Family of Romania, but also Romanian dignitaries who are attending the funeral.

Turkey’s Ambassador in Bucharest Osman Koray Ertas went to Peles Castle in Sinaia on Wednesday, occasion on which he conveyed his condolences to the Royal Family and the Romanian people.

“King Mihai I was a great Romanian, a remarkable leader, who served his motherland with devotion and responsibility, leading the country in troubled times. With determination and courage, he categorically opposed extremism and saved hundreds of human lives, leaving behind his imprint in the history of the Romanian nation. (…) King Mihai’s legacy will forever remain in our memory,” reads the Ambassador’s message sent on the occasion of signing the condolence book which was opened at the Elisabeta Palace.

Turkey’s Embassy in Bucharest lowered the flag at half-mast, thus joining the Romanian diplomatic missions and institutions which marked the national days of mourning in the memory of the Romanian sovereign.
