661 disadvantaged children from the southern, northern and eastern regions of the country will receive the presents they asked to Santa Clause

  • The presents will be given on the occasion of three special events organized by the Vodafone Foundation between December 18 and 22 in Bucharest, Iasi and Constanta

661 children from social centers and orphanages located in disadvantaged communities from the southern, northern and eastern regions of the country will receive the presents they want for Christmas, with the help of the volunteers of the caravan “Scrisori pentru Mos Craciun” (“Letters for Santa Clause” – e.n.), the largest volunteering program of the Vodafone Romania Foundation. The presents will be given to children on the occasion of three special events organized in Bucharest, on December 18, in Iasi, on December 20, and in Constanta, on December 22.

The first events of this year’s edition of the program “Scrisori pentru Mos Craciun” took place in Timisoara and Cluj-Napoca, for the children in the western region of the country. The volunteers of the caravan will bring presents for a total of 1,000 children across the country, the donations collected for the 2017 edition of the program reaching almost EUR 78,000.

To tell Santa what they want, the kids wrote letters to him, and their letters have been collected by the team of the caravan, then they’ve been scanned and loaded into an application especially created for this program, so that they could be read by the volunteers. The caravan “Scrisori pentru Mos Craciun” has traveled almost 4,000 km in two weeks, to collect the wishes written by all of the 1,000 children, passing through Bucharest and other 16 counties of the country – Alba, Arges, Bacau, Bihor, Botosani, Buzau, Cluj, Constanta, Gorj, Iasi, Ilfov, Prahova, Suceava, Timis, Tulcea and Vrancea. By the end of the 2017 edition of the program, the caravan will travel 12,000 km in total.

This year, employees of eight companies and NGOs have joined the Vodafone Romania Foundation. These donor partners from Cohn and Jansen, Romanian Business Leaders Foundation, Marsh Broker de Asigurare-Reasigurare, Next Advertising, OTP Bank, Republica.ro, Soprano Design SRL and Tuborg prepared gifts for 318 children out of the total of 1,000 children. The transportation of the presents at the regional events in Timisoara, Cluj-Napoca, Iasi and Constanta is provided by FAN Courier.

Being at its eight edition in 2017, the national program “Scrisori pentru Mos Craciun” expanded from one year to another, through partnerships concluded until today with more than 100 NGOs from all the regions of the country, covering more and more disadvantaged communities. This year, the Vodafone Romania Foundation succeeded to add eight new communities on the caravan’s map, and thus the number of children who will receive presents from Santa Clause will increase by 400 compared to 2016.
