1,500 spectators attended the 54th extraordinary Christmas concert of the Madrigal Choir at the Romanian Athenaeum

Almost 1,500 spectators enjoyed the carols and the holiday songs interpreted by the National Chamber Choir “Madrigal – Marin Constantin” led by Anna Ungureanu at the two extraordinary Christmas concerts held at the Romanian Athenaeum on December 18 and 19. For the 54th year in a row, the emblematic voices of the Madrigal Choir brought the magic of holidays both to the spectators at the Athenaeum and to the numerous radio listeners, who could listen to the concert held on December 19 in a live broadcast at the Europa FM radio channel. More than 55,000 people watched the live moments on the Facebook page of the Madrigal Choir, and the total impact of the posts was of more than 146,000 people. The concert will also be broadcasted on the Digi 24 TV channel on Christmas Eve, on December 24, starting at 21.00.

The program of the concert included both holiday songs in the international repertoire, such as “Stille Nacht” or “Gaudette”, and a suite of Romanian carols and songs announcing the Birth of the Lord, such as “Steaua sus rasare”, Noi umblam si colindam” or “O, ce veste minunata”. In the break, spectators had a nice surprise in the Athenaeum’s foyer: each evening, more than 200 children of the choirs of the Cantus Mundi National Program held a carol mini-recital under the baton of the second conductor of the National Chamber Choir “Madrigal – Marin Constantin”, Cezar Verlan. The 12 choirs invited in the two concert days count almost 500 children in the Cantus Mundi network, coming from Arad, Brasov, Cluj Napoca, Oradea, Sfantu Gheorghe and Bucharest. The enchanting ambiance of the concert was complemented by dozens of floral arrangements made of roses, exotic flowers and seasonal fruits which adorned the hall of the Romanian Athenaeum.

The end of the show was under the sign of joy, surprise and excitement. Each evening, the voices of more than 200 children of the Cantus Mundi choirs sounded alongside those of the Madrigal, and in the end, the audience was invited to sing “Jingle Bells” with them and to accompany them with the help of hundreds of clay bells specially made for this occasion by folk craftsmen from Negresti-Oas, Satu Mare County.

Being considered a universal landmark of the choral music, the Madrigal ensemble holds carol concerts in the country and in Bucharest every year, to bring the joy of Christmas in the souls of as many people as possible. This year, more than 10,000 spectators in the country could feel the excitement of the holidays through the perfect interpretation of the Madrigal Choir. Starting from December 8, the famous choir ensemble was in a national tour and held concerts on the stages of Caracal, Bacau, Bistrita and Tirgu Mures, where it was welcomed with great warmth and joy.

“Madrigal Choir has made a celebration from the extraordinary Christmas show at the Athenaeum, in which almost 500 children from the Cantus Mundi National Program have been integrated and sang with the audience. We are preparing for a very rich year, because in 2018, with the Centenary of the Great Union, the National Chamber Choir ‘Madrigal – Marin Constantin’ will celebrate 55 years since it was founded. We are preparing beautiful shows, we will be present in England, at British Museum, in France, at the Invalids Dome, at Notre-Dame de Fourvière in Lyon, at Victoria Hall in Geneva. Moreover, the Cantus Mundi National Program will benefit from new energies, because we want to reach all the Romanian schools in 2018, fulfilling the idea which we launched two years ago, ‘No school without a choir’” stated Emil Pantelimon, the Manager of the National Chamber Choir “Madrigal – Marin Constantin”.

“In my name and in the name of my colleagues, I wish you all the best, be healthy and let’s learn how to accept each other. This is what we are actually doing, we are the messengers of a very important idea: we are different, but when we sing we are together, we are the same and we are equally important. Happy Holidays, be healthy and have peace in your souls!” said the conductor of the National Chamber Choir “Madrigal – Marin Constantin”, Anna Ungureanu.
