JusMin Tudorel Toader on relationship with PM Mihai Tudose: Very good

Justice Minister Tudorel Toader states that his relationship with Premier Mihai Tudose is “very good,” pointing out he has no “elements” to make him think otherwise.

Asked by journalists on Thursday, at the Supreme Magistracy Council (CSM), about his relationship with Premier Mihai Tudose, the Justice Minister answered: “I have no element that would make me believe that the nature of my relationship with the Premier is anything but very good.”

However, he refused to answer the journalists’ questions about his decision concerning National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) Chief Prosecutor Laura Codruta Kovesi.

On the other hand, the Justice Minister talked about the meeting he will have on Tuesday, January 16, with Guido Raimondi, President of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), pointing out that the memorandum on detention conditions will probably be sent to the ECHR on January 22.

“On Tuesday, I will meet the ECHR President, because January 25 is the deadline on which we must present the roadmap concerning detention conditions. We have drafted it long ago, we are adding something to it every day. I will present it within the Government and then, most likely on January 22, we will send the memorandum to the ECHR,” Tudorel Toader explained. Detention conditions in Romanian penitentiaries are not in line with the European Human Rights Convention and show a structural dysfunctionality that requires the adoption of general measures by the state, the European Court of Human Rights decided in April.
