The management of the “Paul Constantinescu” Philharmonic of Ploiesti continues in 2018 the series of events by which nationally and internationally renowned artists are invited to perform in the Prahova county seat, especially since for some of them Ploiesti is their native city. Thus, on the first day of this February, Alexandru Anastasiu, one of the most famous Romanian vibraphonists, who organized the first vibraphone festival in the world in 2012, will climb the Philharmonic’s stage.
On February 1 2018, the “Paul Constantinescu” Philharmonic of Ploiesti will host a special symphonic concert, given that a special musical instrument, with a special sound – the vibraphone, will be in the foreground. Vibraphone is a percussion musical instrument similar to xylophone, where the sounds are made by metallic blades and prolonged by means of resonance tubes, as in the case of marimba. According to the announced schedule, conductor Tiberiu Soare will come to Ploiesti to lead the orchestra of the Ploiesti Philharmonic, while the percussion soloist Alexandru Anastasiu will perform his own concert for vibraphone and orchestra, called “Rhythm of the Day”.
Alexandru Anastasiu was born in 1979 in Ploiesti, and he is a virtuoso of the vibraphone and one of the most appreciated instrument players in Romania. He graduated the Bucharest National Music University – the Percussion Section, as well as the Internationale Sommerakademie Universitat Mozarteum in Salzburg. Percussionist Alexandru Anastasiu performed in symphonic orchestras, in chamber music bands, and as a soloist, he performed concerts who brought the appreciation of the public and critics. He has acquired a special passion for the vibraphone, devoting himself to the in-depth study of this percussion instrument. In 1999, he reached the semi-final of the Clermont-Ferrand International Vibraphone Contest, and two years later he won the Yamaha Scholarship for percussion instruments. He improved his technique and his musical knowledge and participated also in the mastery classes organized at the Mozarteum University of Salzburg (2006). The year 2007 brought him the statute of a doctoral student at the Bucharest National Music University, a course by which he aimed to improve his interpretative art at vibraphone and to bring his contribution to the musical literature dedicated to this instrument. In 2012, he organized the first vibraphone festival in the world, held in Bucharest with the support of the Romanian Radio Television Company, on which opportunity there have been gathered famous names of the international stages.
Starting from 2013, the prestigious Mike Balter company from US created the baton model bearing Alexandru Anastasiu’s signature. His music is unique, the sound and the construction of the phrase making the souls and the minds of the audience believe that music is not just melody, but melody and rhythm together. In fact, as he confessed in an interview, when he started his career as a vibraphone soloist, everybody told him this is a utopia. But he continued to believe that this instrument which the artist deems to be extraordinary, must be brought to the audience.
Thus, the percussion soloist has collaborated with the most appreciated Romanian symphonic orchestras, he held many concerts on prestigious stages of the world and he won many awards by participating in important festivals in Romania and abroad. He is also a composer, since the passion for vibraphone made him sign works of musical literature dedicated to this instrument. Thus, the CDs through which the percussion artist told those who love music another kind of “stories” about rhythm, energy, harmony and dreaming, using the vibraphone, are ”Colinde clasice”, ”Vibraphone Concertos”, ”Accord Vibes -Just Musette”, ”Bach Vibes”. We have to mention that Alexandru Anastasiu will perform on February 1, in Ploiesti, along with the symphonic orchestra of the “Paul Constantinescu” Philharmonic, for the first time, the concert “Rhythm of the Day”, his own composition. It is the second concert for vibraphone and orchestra composed by Alexandru Anastasiu, and it is distinguished by the musical themes and the original harmonies that succeed one after another. The concert has four parts: 1.Morning rush; 2. Lazy Afternoon; 3. Dusk, and 4.Midnight Vibes, the whole work being an explosion of rhythm and energy.
