HealthMin Sorina Pintea: Vaccination law must be a priority to us

Minister of Health Sorina Pintea on Monday evening told Antena 3 private television broadcaster that Vaccination Law must be a priority right now and she said there was need of a pro-vaccination campaign, considering that 20,000 parents refuse to immunize their children every month.

“I can tell you that the Ministry of Health initiated an anti-measles vaccination campaign and every month 20,000 parents refuse to have their children vaccinated. Since I couldn’t believe it, I asked: every month or it’s about a larger time span? And they told me: every month. I believe that Vaccination Law should be a priority to us. I believe that our campaigns weren’t aggressive enough to convince the parents how beneficial vaccination is. In this context, I believe that free will shouldn’t work like this when it is about children’s health and I say this with all responsibility. We will need an open discussion and a pro-vaccination campaign. Producers should have campaigns to explain how beneficial vaccination is and that these shots do not have negative effects. (…) The Law is in Parliament right now, in the Deputies’ Chamber more precisely. I discussed with the people from the Committee for health and we will discuss again with all the players in this area, we will have a very clear discussion,” said the Minister.

Related to the flu shot, Sorina Pintea said that it was available in the entire country, but unfortunately the people didn’t want it.

Pintea showed that the Public health Directorates still have stocks of flu shots.

“We have the shots at the Public Health Directorates”: We have the shot at Unifarm too, but, unfortunately, people are skeptical,” said the Minister.
