Over 80 movies are competing for the 2018 Gopo Awards Gala

23 features, 12 documentaries and 49 short films released in cinemas or at festivals in 2017 have officially entered the competition for the 2018 Gopo Awards nominations.

The 12th edition of the Gopo Awards Gala, the most important event dedicated to the Romanian film industry, will be held on March 19, 2018, in Bucharest.

The list of the eligible fiction features includes “Ana, mon amour” (directed by Calin Peter Netzer), the winner of the Silver Bear for the Best Artistic Contribution at Berlinale, “Fixeur” (directed by Adrian Sitaru), Romania’s proposal for the Oscar Awards, “Aniversarea” (directed by Dan Chisu), “Breaking News” (directed by Iulia Rugina), Romanian productions placed in the top of the ranking in terms of the box-office success, such as “Octav” (directed by Sergiu Ioan Celebidachi), “Ghinionistul” (directed by Iura Luncasu) and “6,9 pe scara Richter” (directed by Nae Caranfil), or the debuts at the feature category “Marita” (directed by Cristi Iftime), “Un pas in urma serafimilor” (directed by Daniel Sandu) and „Meda sau partea nu prea fericita a lucrurilor” (directed by Emanuel Parvu).

The most popular Romanian documentaries of the year 2017, “Tara moarta” (directed by Radu Jude), “Planeta Petrila” (directed by Andrei Dascalescu) and “Ouale lui Tarzan” (directed by Alexandru Solomon) can be found among the 12 titles enrolled in the Best Documentary category, along with “Eu sunt Hercule” (directed by Marius Iacob), “Procesul” (directed by Claudiu Mitcu) or “Lovesc, deci exist” (directed by Marius Barna).

The list of the movies competing for the Best Short Film includes fiction, documentary and animation titles, presented for the first time in the national or international competitive festival circuit of the last year. Among the 49 titles enrolled, we mention: “O noapte in Tokoriki” (directed by Roxana Stroe), “Scris/Nescris” (directed by Adrian Silisteanu), “Doamna Ghica” (directed by Catalin Mesaru, Catalin Moise), “Sechestrati fara voie” (directed by Tudor Botezatu), “No Man’s Land” (directed by Marius Olteanu), “Cand afara ninge” (directed by Conrad Mericoffer), “Sisif 2.0” (directed by Toma Peiu, Luiza Parvu), “Cord” (directed by Ioachim Stroe), “Petrecere privata” (directed by Octav Chelaru), “Offstage” (directed by Andrei Hutuleac).

The nominations for all the 20 categories will be announced at the end of February.

This year’s jury consists of 11 professionals in the field: Igor Cobileanski (director), Ana Ciontea (actress), Iuliana Tarnovetchi (producer), Barbu Balasoiu (operator), Radu Corciova (scenographer), Gabriela Albu (developer ), and film criticists Irina Margareta Nistor, Catalin Olaru, Cristian Marculescu, Angelo Mitchievici, Ion Indolean.

After the jury will announce the nominations, approximatively 500 active members in the Romanian film industry will be invited to announce the winners of the Gopo 2018 trophies.

This will be made by a voting system provided by the prestigious audit and consultancy company PwC Romania.

The 12th edition of the 2018 Gopo Awards Gala is organized by Asociatia pentru Promovarea Filmului Romanesc (the Romanian Film Promotion Association – e.n.), with the support of the National Center of Cinematography and Babel Communications.
